 RUSINGA FRIENDS SPOTLIGHT ACADEMY

Rusinga Friends Spotlight Academy is situated on Rusinga Island in Lake Victoria, Kenya. It was established in 2018 to address diverse community needs which include; education, health, economic empowerment, water and sanitation, and environmental conservation. Tom John Amuka, a medical health worker and graduate of Thika School of Medical Health and Sciences is founder the project, having drawn inspiration from his upbringing on Rusinga Island and the challenges the children goes through in the community.

Tom's journey from being raised by a single mother to becoming a medical doctor has fueled his passion for positively impacting the community especially in education.  Over the past six years, Rusinga Friends Spotlight Academy has transformed to offer comprehensive support catering to the community's educational, physical, and emotional needs of vulnerable families and orphans. Tom's dedication to his roots and his belief in the transformative power of education has been instrumental in the growth of the Rusinga Island Spotlight Project. The organization's narrative underscores a commitment to holistic care and community development, echoing Nelson Mandela's sentiment that "Education is the greatest weapon we can use to change the world."
